A Rain Water harvesting system

What is rainwater harvesting ?
  • Rainwater harvesting may be defined as the process of augmenting the natural infiltration of rainwater or surface run off into the ground by some artificical methods. it is the principal of collecting and using precipitation from a catchments surface. The concept of rainwater harvesting lies in tapping the rainwater where it falls.

What are the various techniques of rainwater harvesting?
  • The technique of rainwater harvesting involves catching the rain from localised catchments surfases such as roof of a house, plain and sloping ground surfaces etc.....The Rainwater that falls on this catchments is diverted into dugout ponds, vessels or underground tanks to store for long periods. Construction of small barrieres across small strems to cheak and store the running water is also an example of small catchments water harvesting.

What are the various components of a rainwater harvesting system?
  • A rainwater harvesting system comprises components of various stages-transporting rainwater through pipes or drains, filtration, and storage in tanks for reuse or recharge.
  • The common components of a rainwater harvestin system are....
  1. Catchments
  2. Gutters
  3. Conduits
  4. Filter
  5. Storage

How does one prevent rainwatr from becoming stale?
  • Allow the friest six to seven days of rainwater to go waste, to avoid collecting dust from the atmosphere.
  • Ensure the tank is sealed properly.
  • Sunlight must not be allowed to enter the tank.
  • Chlorine dropes or time can also be used to keep the water tank clean.
